Will and Kate better be hittin' me up! - Cake Decoratin': Week 10

Last class! First wedding cake! Note the pink bow! And the fancy butter cream scroll work business! I started out with a white fondant base covering, and then used a #1 tip (which is the most itty bitty of them all) to swiggle (let's hope elegantly...) some ivory icing on top. Then I mixed up some pink fondant (adding a bit o yellow to make it the desired shade), rolled it out, and cut out the borders and the bow bits. Since it's a tiered cake, I had to put measured dowel rods into it before decorating, in order to make sure it didn't collapse! It was an adventure!
My bow!!! I had trouble keeping it from flopping completely, at first, but then I let it dry a bit while propped up, and it gave it enough oomph to be a suitable cake topper. I likez it a lotz!

So, this picture is here for two reasons. One, it shows some of the bow and the top border, and two (more importantly) it shows how my swiggles ended up becoming rather drapey on the sides. This was because I forgot about the properties of gravity, and my icing was so thin to fit through the tiny tip, that it just wanted to flee downward. I think it turned out okay, though. I ended up tilting the cake to combat physics.

NOTE THE SWIGGLES! As T. Swift sings, "It's a love story, Baby just say, 'yyyyyeeeeessssss'." SAY YES TO SUPER CUTE DELICIOUSNESS!!!!
